Up Close and Personal with Caroline Hollywell
Introduction
Hello Book Lovers,
Time once again for #MeetTheAuthorMonday
Today we will get ‘up close and personal’ with the talented illustrator Caroline Hollywell who will be joining us for The Lyde Court Book Fayre HR1 3AE on Saturday 23rd May 2026.
We sent Caroline a selection of questions not necessarily to do with her books but just to get to know her a little better. So, without further ado, here are the questions Caroline chose to complete:
Childhood
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
I always wanted to be an illustrator, my dream started to come true when I enrolled in Hereford College of the Arts and achieved my BA Hons in Illustration as well as winning a prestigious printing award. From there I have had art in Galleries such as the Cider Museum and Lions Gallery. I have had many private commissions from portraits and pets to fantisful, illustrative creations. A few years ago, I decided to set up my own business, where I commission a writer and illustrate the works and thus C&C Picture Books was born.
Fantasy
Are you a dreamer, and can you recall them when you wake up? Have you ever used material from a dream within your writing?
I often have dreams that upon waking I can recall vividly. I think many creatives are blessed with this ability. My dreams often involve the development of my characters and upon waking I will rush to my desk to create, or adjust them.
Work/Writing
Tell us about your creative environment.
I can literally draw anywhere but my main creative space is my room where I have my art desk and pastels set up so I can jump out of bed and create when inspired.
Relaxation
What is your favourite season? What do you look forward to doing most of all during this season?
My favourite season is Autumn because I love the changing colours of the trees, the crisp mornings and the crunch of leaves under foot. It reminds me of being a child and after raking up piles of leaves, kicking them all down with my siblings as we giggled.
Personal
What is the best thing you’ve done in your life so far?
The best thing to happen to me apart from my family is seeing my dreams come true with the publication of my children's picture books and holding that first book in my hands. It’s a feeling I will never forget. Every time I see a child read my books I am truly happy.
Sea Slug or Alien Bug
